Now that the second week of the 2019-2020 NFL season is in the books it is a good time to recap all of the games. It was an exciting and entertaining week 2 of the NFL schedule. There were some surprises and plenty of close match ups to analyze.

The San Francisco 49ers scored early and often as they racked up big play after big play against the struggling and inferior Cincinnati Bengals. The Forty Niners compiled 572 yards worth of offense for the first time in seven years as they won their first two games of the young NFL season on the road. They have not done that since 1989 when they eventually went on to win the Super Bowl that year led by quarterback Joe Montana, wide receiver Jerry Rice, and Coach Walsh. Coincidentally when the 1989 Niners won that Super Bowl they beat the Cincinnati Bengals in a great and memorable game.

Although the Detroit Lions won this game it was not a solid win to be proud of. Their quarterback Matthew Stafford threw a couple of interceptions, Darius Slay was outperformed by his opponent Keenen Allen for the majority of the ball game, and their often reliable place kicker Matt Prater missed both an extra point and a field goal. Luckily, the Lions had a well-played fourth quarter to edge them past the Los Angeles Chargers by three points. Detroit will need to sharpen up if they plan on beating the Philadelphia Eagles on the road next weekend.

These two NFC North rivals battled in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Green Bay Packers got out to an early lead and the Minnesota Vikings could not muster up any fourth quarter points so they suffered a 5 point loss that may be tough to swallow as this is going to be a difficult division to win. All four NFC North teams are decent this season, and every win and/or loss for those teams may come down to deciding their playoff fate.

This AFC South contest was a game that could have went either way in terms of deciding the winner. The once backup quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, Jacoby Brissett, came up huge in this match up. Brissett ended up with only 146 passing yards, but he did throw for three touchdowns on Sunday, September 15th, 2019. The home team, the Tennessee Titans, failed to put up any fourth quarter points while playing at home in this close as well as exciting football game.

The only thing that really needs to be said about this game is that the worst team in the NFL at the moment lost to the best team in the NFL right now. The New England Patriots blew out the Miami Dolphins down in South Florida. Tom Brady found his newest addition at the wide receiver position, Antonio Brown, for a touchdown pass in this easy victory. I can confidently say that the defending Super Bowl champion Patriots will be very hard to beat by any other team throughout the course of the 2019-2020 NFL season as long as they remain relatively healthy.

By looking solely at the box score it seems as if the main difference in scoring between these two football teams was in the second quarter. The Buffalo Bills scored 14 points in the 2nd quarter whereas the New York Giants failed to score any points in the fifteen minutes of game clock prior to half time. Although Buffalo is now 2-0 they have a long ways to go before making a statement as an elite team in the NFL or even just the AFC currently.

The was the second straight week in which the Seattle Seahawks squeaked out a win by less than three points. Pittsburgh lost the contest, but more importantly they may have also lost the services of their superstar starting quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben left this game around the half way point due to a right elbow injury that had him struggling to pass the ball. At this time the extent of the elbow injury that he suffered has not been determined or announced yet by the Pittsburgh Steelers , but that should happen sometime soon.

The Washington Redskins put up a valiant effort in their second straight loss to an NFC East divisional opponent. They were playing the Dallas Cowboys close through the majority of the contest, but they didn’t have enough gas in the tank to close out strong enough to beat a quality team such as the Cowboys. Dak Prescott had another great performance as he is still waiting to hopefully get offered and sign a new contract extension.

This game was a battle between young athletic quarterbacks. The Baltimore
Ravens witnessed and enjoyed another stellar job out of their quarterback, Lamar Jackson. He passed for 272 yards and threw 2 touchdowns while also rushing for 120 yards on the ground. The Ravens also displayed to the league that their defense remains solid and serviceable during their first two games this season.

The Arizona Cardinals have to be impressed with the 2nd game of Kyler Murray’s young career. He looks to be the franchise QB that this team has been searching for ever since Kurt Warner retired from the Cardinals.

Patrick Mahomes had another phenomenal week leading the Kansas City Chiefs to win by scoring four touchdowns in the second quarter in order to beat the Oakland Raiders who looked surprisingly good in the first quarter of the game. Oakland seems to be able to compete better in the NFL than most people predicted for this season. The Chiefs didn’t need to more than 25% of this game to dominate the box score on September 15, 2019.

The week 3 matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and the Chiefs should be a highly entertaining game to watch, and I very much look forward to seeing that this upcoming Sunday!

This game played between the Chicago Bears and the Denver Broncos at the Mile High Stadium in Colorado was one of the best games of the year so far that did not go to overtime. The contest was absolutely a defensive battle where both of these teams performed well defensively.

The Bears were winning in the fourth quarter with only a couple minutes left in the game when Joe Flacco drove the Broncos downfield for a touchdown. After lining up to go for the two point conversion they were penalized so they decided to then kick the extra point to tie the game, but Chicago was offside on the kick attempt putting the ball back close to the end zone so they then decided to go for two in order to take a late in the game lead against the Bears. This worked out for them as they went up on Chicago by 1 point with only about 30 seconds of game clock left and the Bears had one timeout remaining.

Mitchell Trubisky made some clutch pass completions and the Chicago Bears managed to call a timeout with only one second left on the game clock to bring out their first year kicker, Eddie Pineiro for a game winning field goal from 53 yards out. This high pressure kick went through the uprights with no time remaining on the clock giving the Chicago Bears da comeback win!

The QB was releasing a pass when the throwing motion caused his right hand to collide with the hand of, Aaron Donald, the defensive lineman of the Los Angeles Rams. Drew Brees staying Los Angeles to meet with a highly respected hand specialist in LA on Monday, September 16th, 2019. The Jets backup QB went out early in this Monday Night Football game with a lower leg injury. Their third string quarterback did not play well, and Jets struggled to get anything going offensively.

The Cleveland Browns on the other hand Baker Mayfield led his team to an easy win on the road after their week one blowout loss against the Tennessee Titans. The Browns star wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr., had the a really long touchdown reception as it was over 80 yards long.
