PokerStars' move in the online sports betting arena has attracted quite a bit of attention and the company is taking the opportunity to cross market its Super High Roller event at the current World Championship of Online Poker.
A small field made up of mostly pros are expected to participate in the $51,000 buy-in event but PokerStars is hoping to change that by offering betting lines on certain high profile players in a move to draw in poker fans and sports punters.
Odds will be offers on 20 players ranging from 13 to 1 for Jason Mercier, Daniel Moorman and Daniel Negreanu to 16 to 1 for Jason Somerville, Sorel Mizzi, Ben Sulsky and Dan Smith.
The 15 to 1 odds will be offered on Viktor Blom, Tobias Reinkmeier, Igor Kurganov, Phillip Gruissem, Dan Colman, Ole Schemion, Ike Haxton, Justin Bonomo, Bertrand Grospellier, Phil Galfond and Mike McDonald.
According to analysis from sports betting experts, the difference in odds is not that big so betting on all 20 possibilities with the odds paying 16 to 1 or worse is of little benefit to the punter and the house edge is 25 percent.
One expert said: "Given the house edge, the high variance of poker and the strong track records of all the players involved, I really can't imagine there being any long-term profitable betting opportunities here."

In my opinion only poker fans will have a bet on this event. It's very hard to predict the winner and the 25% house edge seems too high as well. There are some really good player as Negreanu, Mercier, Bonomo or Blom and they have egal knowledge about poker. A preflop all-in can change everything. I think it's better to...

I agree with sharpe that this is great idea but I also think that it is impossible to predict correct who will win this event because that is pure luck and maybe that will won some anonymous player for who we don't know that exist. So I think that is only good for poker stars to have bigger profit.

That is an interesting idea from PockerStars and obviously a new way for them to be even more successful as a brand. I think it will interact many players because of the highest odds for every one of the participants. It's obviously that is not easy for anyone to guess who will be the winner in a poker tournament but when...
