Back Premier League: Kurt Zouma expects to remain at Chelsea

Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma expects to remain at Stamford Bridge next season after having spent the last two campaigns out on loan at other clubs. The 24-year-old central defender played for Everton last season and Toffees manager Marco Silva desired to make the deal permanent, but it seems Chelsea are now counting on Zouma to create competition for a place in the starting eleven under new manager Frank Lampard

"In terms of Kurt Zouma, he's a very good defender for us, very good player, very good person and professional," Lampard said. "I want him here, simple as that. We are competitive with the centre-backs we have in the team and he had a very good season at Everton and I can understand why they want him." Central defender Gary Cahill was released by Chelsea this summer as his contract expire, so Zouma will have to compete with David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen for a spot in the starting eleven.

"I’m happy with what the manager said about me," Zouma said about Lampard's statement. "That means he is seeing the work I’m doing and I’m very pleased with that. We had a chat, and he was very good with me. He is a very good manager. I enjoyed my time at Everton but I’m a Chelsea player and we’ll see what will happen now in the future. I think it will be here at Chelsea. This is a chance for me. I went out on loan last season but I’m a Chelsea player and I want to do well to get my chance and be here."

Last season Kurt Zouma made 36 appearances for Everton in all competitions and scored two goals. Chelsea have lost star winger Eden Hazard this summer as he was sold to Real Madrid, but they can now count on 20-year-old American winger Christian Pulisic, who joined from Borussia Dortmund. The Blues finished third in the Premier League last season and they are 25/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League this season.
