Back Premier League: Manchester United vs Bournemouth preview

Manchester United host Bournemouth on Tuesday for the last match of the Premier League fixture as the match was postponed on Sunday due to a bomb threat at Old Trafford. Unfortunately for the Red Devils the last Champions League spot is now out of reach as Manchester City secured that position with a 1-1 draw at Swansea. However, Man United still have something to fight for, they need at least one point in order to climb above Southampton in fifth place. The reverse fixture in December was one of the many disappointing matches for Man United, Bournemouth beat them 2-1 on that occasion.

Manchester United end a disappointing season with a big question mark over Louis Van Gaal's future at the club. Clinching a Champions League spot might have saved his job, but with that objective out of reach things could get complicated for the Dutch manager as the season comes to an end. They can still end the season on a positive note at Old Trafford, but a negative result will surely add more fuel to an already open fire of discontent among the club supporters. Marouane Fellaini is suspended for this match, while Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Luke Shaw are still injured.

Bournemouth have secured their objective for this season, they will be playing Premier League football next term. A good result at Old Trafford could improve their final league position, currently 16th, which will result in an improved financial package from the TV rights. But they have not won a match since April 9th, when they edged past already doomed Aston Villa. They have done a good job away from home this season though, with 6 matches won, 4 drawn and 8 lost. Tyrone Mings, Sylvain Distin and Adam Smith remain sidelined for the visitors.

Probable line-ups:

Man United: De Gea - Fosu-Mensah, Smalling, Blind, Borthwick-Jackson - Carrick - Lingard, Rooney, Mata, Martial - Rashford

Bournemouth: Federici - Francis, Elphick, Cook, Daniels - Ritchie, Surman, Arter, Pugh - King, Wilson

My prediction: Manchester United to win 3-1.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Man United win - 1.62 Draw - 4.50 Bournemouth win - 5.50
