Back UEFA Champions League Final: Tottenham vs Liverpool preview

The big moment has finally arrived for Tottenham and Liverpool, the two English teams will clash on Saturday evening at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final, an immensely important moment for both clubs. This season the Reds were better than the Spurs in both Premier League meetings, they won them both 2-1 and Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino managed to get on the score sheet on both occasions. Liverpool have won four of the last six direct matches against Tottenham, while the Spurs have only managed to grab one win. The two sides have met just once before in an European competition, it happened back in 1973 in the UEFA Cup semi-finals and Liverpool pulled through on away goals after a 1-0 home win and a 2-1 defeat in London.

Tottenham had a season with lots of ups and downs, especially in the second half, but they can end it with a truly historic achievement if they would manage to beat Liverpool and get the UEFA Champions League trophy. The Spurs have not won an European trophy since the 1963 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, their only European silverware so far, and their last significant trophy was the League Cup in 2008. After the 1963 triumph, Tottenham played two UEFA Cup finals, but they lost them both, in 1972 and 1984. They have lost five of their last eight matches in all competitions, but somehow managed to focus when it mattered the most and edged past Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and then past Ajax in the semi-finals. Harry Kane has returned to training and could make the starting eleven, but left-back Ben Davies will definitely miss out due to a groin injury.

Liverpool have been quite unlucky this season, they have finished the Premier League campaign with 97 points but finished second and their tense race with Manchester City probably led them to crash out of both the League Cup and the FA Cup. However, they had an amazing run in the Champions League which culminated with the historic comeback against Barcelona in the semi-finals. The Reds had lost the first leg 3-0 at Camp Nou but then produced an immense performance at Anfield and won the second leg 4-0. They have won thirteen of their last fourteen matches in all competitions and only have one injury concern as Naby Keita is set to miss out. The Reds have not won an European trophy since 2005, when they won both the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup.

Probable line-ups:

Tottenham: Lloris - Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose - Sissoko, Wanyama, Eriksen - Alli - Kane, Moura

Liverpool: Alisson - Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson - Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum - Salah, Firmino, Mane

My prediction:

I think Liverpool are the better team but anything can happen in a final. Nevertheless, I am quite confident that the Reds will win this match but most likely with a tight score, 2-1 would be my choice.

Here are the odds for the match at Bet365
