Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has called for a change to the very busy festive schedule for Premier League clubs. United manager Louis van Gaal also said his team "struggled" during Sunday's goalless draw at Tottenham, which started just 43 hours after their Boxing Day match against Newcastle.
England captain Wayne Rooney says that the packed schedule had led to a decline in quality. "Hopefully in the future it has to change," he said. He also added that player fatigue may lead to serious injuries: "It will probably take someone getting a really bad injury from doing it, which no-one wants to see, but it is very demanding and I think it does need looking at."
At White Hart Lane Manchester United dominated the first half but the team obviously faded in the second half of the match against Tottenham. "It is difficult. We started so well in the first half, but in the second half it was tough," Rooney said. "You do lose a lot of the quality from both teams." Van Gaal described the Christmas schedule as "the culture of England", but said that it did not allow players enough rest.

I agree with you Sharpe, managers should rotate their players during the busy Christmas schedule. The problem for Van Gaal is that he doesn't have too many valuable players to rotate.

Any new manager in England calls for a changes in the schedule. But that is just a part of the english football. Van Gaal played same eleven in both games at 48 hours time period, so you have to expect those players to be tyred in the closing stages of the second game.Rotation is very important part of the game especially...
