Back Bundesliga: Bayern Munich sign Philippe Coutinho

The Philippe Coutinho transfer saga has ended, at least for now, as the Brazilian forward joined Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on loan until the end of the current season. The German side will pay 8.5 million euros to Barcelona for the loan and Bayern will also have the option to buy the 27-year-old for 120 million euros at any time during the loan deal. The Bundesliga champions will also have to pay the Brazilian's wages and bonuses during the loan spell.

"In Barcelona a lot of things did not turn out as we had imagined," Coutinho said during his official presentation in Munich. "But this is now history. I hope to stay here a long time and win many titles. The jersey of FC Bayern and the number 10 is a big responsibility. It belonged to Robben, he was a great reference in football. I hope to be able to live up to expectations with good football on the pitch."

Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge added: "We have been working with Philippe Coutinho for some time and are very happy that we were able to realise this transfer now. Our thanks to FC Barcelona for agreeing to this transfer. In Philippe, a player comes to FC Bayern who will strengthen our offense with his creativity and excellent technique." Barcelona have also brought in winger Ivan Perisic on loan from Inter Milan this summer, along with the permanent transfers of Lucas Hernandez, Benjamin Pavard and Michael Cuisance.

Philippe Coutinho joined Barcelona from Liverpool for a record fee of 142 million pounds in January 2018 and went on to score 26 goals in 76 appearances for the reigning LaLiga champions. That was not enough to satisfy the Catalan giants, though, and the Blaugrana have been looking to sell him this summer, either as a part of a deal for Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar or on loan to either Tottenham, Arsenal or Liverpool.

Bayern Munich are 1/3 at William Hill to win the Bundesliga title once again this season, after having won the last seven editions.
