Back Paris Saint-Germain: Neymar skips first day of pre-season training

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar has skipped the first day of pre-season training, thus fueling the rumours linking him with a move away from the French giants and towards his former club Barcelona. The 27-year-old Brazilian was due at the club's training ground on Monday but never showed up. The club promptly issued a statement: "Paris St-Germain notes that Neymar Jr was not in attendance at the agreed time and place. This was without the club's prior authorisation. The club regrets this situation."

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo had previously said in an interview with French newspaper Le Parisien that "Neymar can leave PSG, if there is an offer that suits everyone." The Brazilian sporting director admitted that there was contact from Barcelona, but that it was "superficial". "We do not know if anyone wants to buy it or at what price," Leonardo added. "PSG wants to rely on players who want to stay and build something big."

Neymar's father contradicted the club on Monday, saying that they were aware that his son was going to be late for pre-season training. "The reason was known and planned for a year as part of his activities for the Neymar Institute," Neymar Senior told Brazilian media. "We couldn't postpone them and he will return to PSG on 15 July." Neymar joined PSG from Barcelona for a world record 222 million euros in August 2017. He scored a massive 34 goals in 37 league appearances, leading PSG to back-to-back Ligue 1 titles. However, he has been in all sorts of disciplinary trouble lately. He was banned for three games for lashing out at a fan after PSG's French Cup final defeat and will also miss the next three European matches for insulting officials.

Last week, Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu added further fuel to the fire, claiming that he knows Neymar wants to leave PSG this summer. You can bet on Neymar's future at Betfair, he is 8/11 to join Barcelona this summer, 14/1 to join Real Madrid and 1/1 to remain at PSG.
