The biggest transfer in the history of football is set to be completed as Barcelona forward Neymar has agreed a five-year contract with French giants Paris Saint-Germain. The Brazil forward will earn a massive 865,000 euros per week in Paris, becoming the highest-paid football player. However, Barcelona insist they will not let Neymar go for anything less than his minimum fee release clause, which is set at 222 million euros. Barcelona have released an official statement on Wednesday saying that they expect the release clause to be paid "in full".
On Wednesday Neymar was given permission by Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde to leave the training session and sort out his transfer. Neymar also earns a lot of money from sponsorship deals, he is under contract with big brands such as Nike, Gillette, Panasonic and Beats by Dre, which give him around 16 million pounds per year alongside his salary at Barcelona which was worth 11.3 million pounds per year. At Paris Saint-Germain Neymar would get just over 40 million pounds per year, while Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi gets around 26 million pounds per year.
Lionel Messi published an Instagram post on Wednesday as a reaction to Neymar's departure from Barcelona: "It was a great pleasure to have shared all these years with you my friend Neymar. I wish you good luck in this new stage of your life. See you tomorrow." Neymar responded to the post: "Thank you brother.. I will miss you uncle!" Neymar moved to Barcelona from Brazilian club Santos in 2013 for just over 48 million pounds and he seemed set to remain at the club for quite some time after having signed a new five-year contract in 2016.
Paris Saint-Germain are now 1/5 at Bet365 to win the Ligue 1 title next season and they are 11/1 to win the Champions League.
