German champions Bayern Munich have reached an agreement with AS Roma to sign Morocco defender Mehdi Benatia for an undisclosed fee. The player will undergo a medical check before signing a five-year contract.
The 27-year-old defender helped Roma finish second in Serie A last season and was also linked with a move to Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester United. Roma have already brought in a replacement for Benatia, Greek defender Kostas Manolas from Olympiakos.
Bayern had been looking for a central defender after Spain international Javi Martinez was ruled out until the end of 2014 with ruptured cruciate knee ligaments. Benatia made 33 Serie A appearances and scored an impressive five goals for Roma last season.
Bayern Munich are 1/10 at Bet365 to win the Bundesliga once again this season.
