The League Cup third-round draw has not favoured these two teams, the two best sides in the Premier League so far this season clash at Anfield on Wednesday evening. Chelsea are unbeaten in their last three matches against Liverpool, last season they defeated the Reds 1-0 at Stamford Bridge after two consecutive 1-1 draws at Anfield. However, Liverpool have the better record in the last six direct matches, with two wins compared to Chelsea's one. Moreover, the Blues have not won a match at Anfield since a 2-1 victory in 2014, in which Gary Cahill and Diego Costa provided the goals.
Liverpool have won all their seven matches so far this season and they seem capable of extending this perfect streak for quite a few more games. Last week they impressed with a spectacular 3-2 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and they continued their dominance of the Premier League with a 3-0 victory over Southampton. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana remain the only injury concerns for manager Jurgen Klopp, who will most likely decide to rotate his squad in this match. Striker Daniel Sturridge will probably be handed a place in the starting eleven, and new signing Fabinho might also get a chance to play from the start.
Chelsea had their own perfect streak going until last weekend, they had six consecutive wins in all competitions but it all came to an end as they were held to a goalless draw at West Ham. On the positive side, that is their fourth clean sheet of the season in all competitions and they have conceded more than one goal in just one match, the 3-2 victory over Arsenal in August. Marco van Ginkel is the only injury on Maurizio Sarri's list, so the Italian is free to make his choices for this match. Youngsters Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ethan Ampadu will most likely be given a chance to shine in this match and Alvaro Morata will most likely have the chance to impress as well after being in Olivier Giroud's shadow so far this season.
Probable line-ups:
Liverpool: Mignolet - Clyne, Matip, Gomez, Moreno - Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum - Shaqiri, Sturridge, Origi
Chelsea: Caballero - Zappacosta, Cahill, Christensen, Emerson - Loftus-Cheek, Ampadu, Barkley - Moses, Morata, Hudson-Odoi
My prediction: Liverpool to win 2-1, I doubt Chelsea can pull off a result at Anfield against a very confident Liverpool.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
