Algeria boss: Riyad Mahrez deserves better than Leicester City

Algeria head coach Rabah Madjer adds further fuel to the conflict between Riyad Mahrez and Leicester City after the Foxes refused to let the winger move to Manchester City during the January transfer window. Manchester City made an offer worth 65 million pounds for Mahrez, probably because Pep Guardiola wanted more depth to his squad following an injury to Leroy Sane. Leicester City replied with a demand for 95 million pounds and the deal fell through, even though Mahrez made an official transfer request to his club. Mahrez has been in solid form this season, with eight goals and eight assists in 24 appearances for Leicester City. National team head coach Madjer believes that the Foxes should have allowed his star to leave: "Mahrez currently deserves better than Leicester. But we must not forget that it was Leicester who put him on the right track. I think a serious conversation with his board is needed. He wants to go to a bigger club in the English league. I do not know what really happened about his transfer." The situation between Mahrez and the club is quite unclear at the moment and it has been reported that the winger missed training no less than four times since the transfer fell through. "Me, I advise him to resume training and work hard, even if the transfer has not been resolved," national team coach Madjer said. "And we must not forget that there are the games of the national team that will come soon and a preparation. May he come back to us in great shape. I hope that later the doors will be opened by a bigger club." Riyad Mahrez is 3/1 at BetVictor to join Manchester City during next summer's transfer window, 6/1 to join Liverpool and 10/1 to complete a move to Arsenal.
