UK-based bookmaker, Betfred, established in 1967, has just made public that it will serve as the title sponsor of the World Lightweight boxing match. The event is scheduled to occur this September, at the Manchester Arena, a space known for hosting big-name events, which can house up to 21,000 individuals.
Participating in September's event will be Anthony Crolla, the current World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight champion, and Jorge Linares, Venezuelan three-weight champion. The match will be broadcasted live on September 24th, via Sky Sports.
Many are pleased with the recent arrangement, particularly, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, who expressed his joy at Betfred's latest role in sponsoring the match.
Hearn further added, “This is a real 50-50 clash to determine who is the best lightweight in the world and the fans are in for a real treat on September 24th.”
Additionally, John Haddock, Betfred chief, commented “We are delighted to be sponsoring such a high profile night of boxing including what looks to be a cracking unification between two of the most exciting boxers around.”
Anyone can walk away with the title in this upcoming match, and viewers will have the opportunity to catch it all live. Will Crolla be able to keep his WBA world lightweight title, intact, in addition to his Ring Magazine world championship, or will Linares take the win?
The tension is not only between Crolla and Linares, but the event will also see John Ryder, WBA International Middleweight title-holder, go up against Jack Arnfield, as well as Tshifhiwa Munayi, fighting against Isaac Lowe, who will be defending his Commonwealth Featherweight title.
