German champions Bayern Munich continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season as they have confirmed the transfer of Lyon midfielder Corentin Tolisso. The transfer is worth 37 million euros and the player has signed a five-year contract with Bayern Munich. Tolisso is already a French international at the age of 22 and has also been linked with a move to Premier League champions Chelsea. This will be the first time he will play for another club than Lyon after having joined them at the age of 9.
He made his first-team debut in 2013 and went on to score 29 goals in 160 appearances for Lyon. Last season he established himself as a top player in Ligue 1, scoring eight goals in 31 appearances. Last summer Lyon received an offer from Serie A side Napoli for the young midfielder but Tolisso turned down the proposal. Lyon finished fourth in Ligue 1 last season and missed out on Champions League qualification, so that was probably one of the reasons behind Tolisso's decision to move on.
Corentin Tolisso is the fourth signing of the summer for Bayern Munich after they have already completed the signings of midfielder Sebastian Rudy, central defender Niklas Sule and former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry. Tolisso mainly plays as a central midfielder, but he has covered several positions during his career at Lyon. Last season he played as a false nine on occasions and he has also played as a right-back earlier in his career. He made his debut in the France senior national team in a friendly match against Spain in March 2017.
Bayern Munich are 11/2 at Bet365 to win the Champions League next season.
