Newly-promoted FC Koln seek their first Bundesliga victory of the season this Friday, but their mission is extremely difficult because they face title contenders Borussia Dortmund at RheinEnergieStadion. The two sides have last met two seasons ago, when FC Koln got relegated from the top flight, and Dortmund won 5-0 at home and 3-2 away. Those results ended a streak of three consecutive draws in direct matches and a string of six competitive matches unbeaten for FC Koln against Dortmund.
FC Koln won the championship in 2. Bundesliga last season and they had an impressive tally of 87 goals scored in 34 matches. They kicked off the Bundesliga season with a 2-1 defeat at Wolfsburg, and their goal was a consolation one scored in stoppage time. Niklas Hauptmann and Louis Schaub are injury worries for the home side, while striker Jhon Cordoba might make the first eleven after returning from suspension.
Borussia Dortmund are hoping this will be the season when they dethrone Bayern Munich after seven consecutive Bundesliga titles for the Bavarians. Dortmund kicked off their season with a spectacular win, even though they fell 1-0 behind against Augsburg after just one minute they ended the match with a 5-1 triumph. Pacp Alcacer scored two goals in that match and he should retain his place in the starting eleven. Raphael Guerreiro and Mateu Morey are injured for the visitors.
Probable line-ups:
Koln: Horn - Ehizibue, Mere, Czichos, Hector - Hoger, Schindler, Drexler, Verstraete, Kainz - Modeste
Dortmund: Burki - Piszczek, Hummels, Akanji, Schulz - Witsel, Weigl - Sancho, Reus, Hazard - Alcacer
My prediction:
I'm pretty sure that Koln will manage to score a goal here, their attacking force is good enough for that, but I believe Dortmund will win the match 3-1.
Here are the odds for the match at NetBet:
Koln win - 6.15
Draw - 4.70
Dortmund win - 1.48

It's been a tough fought victory for Dortmund but in the end they've succeed to break the opponents. For me the question is what character the team will show in the biggest games of the season (v Bayern, especially away) cause we could see Dortmund has the quality to compete for the Bundesliga title but do they have the character to do it!? Remember that 0-5 away to Bayern last season...that's what I mean and also they looked too nervy when they've been leading the table...so let's see..usually character is not something you can buy or implement in the side but certainly they are more experienced and probably mentally strong this season because of what happened in the last.
