Bavarian giants Bayern Munich are looking for a new head coach after having sacked Italian Carlo Ancelotti in September and it seems that they have chosen a familiar face: 72-year-old Jupp Heynckes. The veteran coach would have a fourth spell in charge of Bayern after having led them to a treble in 2013, winning the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the UEFA Champions League. He chose not to continue back then and announced his decision to retire from football: "I can assure you that I have no intention of coaching again. I had a worthy ending."
Bayern sacked Carlo Ancelotti after a 3-0 Champions League defeat at Paris Saint-Germain and assistant Willy Sagnol took charge of the team as an interim head coach. Last weekend they were held to a 2-2 draw at Hertha Berlin, a result which left them five points behind Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund. Bayern were rumoured to be interested in appointing Dortmund head coach Thomas Tuchel as their new boss, while Hoffenheim's Julian Nagelsmann was also linked with the job.
Jupp Heynckes has won three Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich and also two UEFA Champions League crowns, first with Real Madrid in 1997–98 and then with Bayern in 2012–13. His first spell in charge at Bayern was between 1987 and 1991, when he managed to lead them to two consecutive Bundesliga titles. His first return to the club was in April 2009, after two years without a job, when he assumed the role of caretaker manager. His most successful spell with the Bavarians was the third, between 2011 and 2013.
