Bayern Munich have reacted firmly to rumours linking striker Robert Lewandowski with moves to either Manchester United or Chelsea. The rumours have appeared in the media on Wednesday and the Bavarian club have reacted promptly, insisting that any club that tries to hold talks with Robert Lewandowski risks a FIFA penalty as the player is still under contract with the Bundesliga champions. It is believed that both Manchester United and Chelsea have discussed a potential move with the player's representatives.
A statement released by Bayern Munich said: "Lewandowski does not want to leave Bayern. There are no talks with other clubs and there won't be any. Lewandowski's contract expires in 2021. He signed it not long ago. If other clubs negotiate with long-term contracted players they risk a FIFA penalty." However, there was some friction between Lewandowski and the club last season as the Polish striker hinted at a lack of support from the club in his pursuit of the Bundesliga Top Goalscorer title.
Robert Lewandowski scored 30 league goals last season but Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finished the season with 31 goals after scoring on the last match day. Earlier this month Lewandowski made his feelings public in an interview with a Polish newspaper: "I was not really happy with how my team helped me. I was annoyed and disappointed with the team's attitude." The 28-year-old striker joined Bayern Munich from Borussia Dortmund in 2014 and scored 77 goals in 96 league appearances for the Bavarians.
Robert Lewandowski is 2/1 at BetVictor to join Chelsea this summer, 10/1 to sign for Manchester United and 14/1 to join Real Madrid by the end of the transfer window.
