Head coach Thomas Tuchel has decided to end his reign as head coach at Borussia Dortmund after just two years in charge. Borussia had a pretty good season, finishing third in Bundesliga to qualify for next season's Champions league and winning the German Cup after a 3-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend. Tuchel had taken over the job after former club Jurgen Klopp left the club to join Liverpool in 2015. He led the team to a second-place Bundesliga finish last year and also reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League this season.
Tuchel's decision was most likely due to the relationship between him and club chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke after the two had a disagreement following the incident which saw Dortmund's team bus damaged by an explosion on 11 April. The club released a statement saying that Tuchel's decision was not due to a "disagreement between two people," but the announcement of his departure was made shortly after a meeting between him and Watzke on Tuesday.
The disagreement was sparked when Tuchel claimed neither he nor his players were consulted about scheduling the Champions League quarter-final home tie against Monaco less than 24 hours after explosion which damaged the team bus. Watzke replied that the claim had annoyed him. Tuchel created a Twitter account shortly before posting a message about his resignation: "I am grateful for two exciting, beautiful and eventful years. It's a pity to not go on. Thank you to the fans, the team, the staff and to all who have supported us."
Swiss coach Lucien Favre, currently in Ligue 1 at Nice, is the favourite for the job according to the bookmakers, he is 1/2 at BetVictor to replace Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund.
