Fresh Tour de France winner Chris Froome is optimistic ahead of his two races at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, even though Sir Bradley Wiggins has expressed his concerns regarding the difficulty of adapting on another continent. Froome will take part in the Olympic road race on Saturday, August 6, and then in the time trial on Wednesday, August 10.
Sir Bradley Wiggins has succeeded in doing the double in 2012 as he won both the road race and the time trial at the London Olympic Games. Froome said on Sunday: "Thankfully, we are going out there tomorrow morning, so we are going to have a few days to acclimatise and get ready before the race. Hopefully, temperature-wise it shouldn't be too different to here. It's hot today and we have had a hot Tour de France, so hopefully our bodies will be used to the heat already. It's more about getting used to the time zones, but four hours' difference to Central European Time is not massive."
The road race is 241.5jkm long and the course features 10 climbs and a few cobbled sections. Froome has tried the course last year in November and says he can fully prepare for the race during the four days in Rio ahead of Saturday's start. He said: "I imagine we will do a few good training days out on the course and get a good look at what we are up against. I went out there in November. It's tough; it's a really tough course. It is a mix of everything. It is predominantly a climbers' course, but also those first few laps with the cobbles are definitely going to mix things up a bit."
Chris Froome is 15/2 at Bet365 to win the Olympic road race, while for the time trial he is the big favourite, 8/11 at Sky Bet.
