Deutsche Telekom Seeks German Sports Betting License
Deutsche Telekom has submitted an application for a German sports betting license could put the company up against other online gambling companies competing for 20 licenses. On Friday, a Deutsche Telekom spokesman said that the company's application was being reviewed by the Interior Ministry of the German state of Hesse. "It is not yet certain whether that will turn into an operating business," the spokesman warned. Of the 16 states within Germany, there will be just 20 sports betting licenses up for grabs in an effort to maintain control. The European Commission and online gambling companies have suggested leniency in terms of online gambling without success. It's for this reason that companies such as William Hill and Betfair have withdrawn from the market making it less competitive and reducing the quality of betting odds available to punters.
