DraftKings sent its players an email on Friday announcing a series of consumer protection changes due to the pressure placed on the daily fantasy sports industry in The United States.
The changes will be effective as of January 29, 2016 and will also include the banning of third party scripting tools with the use of "a new tool that makes it easier for players to enter their DraftKings lineups."
The email was followed up with a press released entitled "Change in Automated Tools Policy".
The notification was accompanied by a series of the following FAQ's.
Q: What is an automated tool?
A: A computer program or a piece of software used to interact with the DraftKings site.
Q: Are automated tools the same thing as “artificial intelligence” or an algorithm to build a lineup?
A: No, automated tools have nothing to do with how a user chooses which players to include in a lineup. Players choose lineups based on their own knowledge.
Q: How will DraftKings enforce the ban on automated tools?
A: We have multiple sophisticated methods of detecting unauthorized behavior through our internal technology and data monitoring. We will actively monitor how users interact with our site. Users found violating our policies are subject to penalties up to and including a permanent ban.
Q: Are third-party tools allowed under the new policy?
A: Third-party tools that interact with the DraftKings site are prohibited under the new policy.
