Manchester City are looking to become the first club in England to complete a domestic treble when they face Watford in the FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday. The Citizens have won both Premier League matches against the Hornets this season, 2-1 at Vicarage Road in December and 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium in March, with Raheem Sterling netting a hat-trick. Those results extended Manchester City's winning streak against Watford to ten matches in all competitions. The last time Watford avoided defeat against the Citizens was in 2007, and the last time they beat them was all the way back in 1989. Watford have played just one FA Cup final before, in 1984, and they lost 2-0 against Everton.
Manchester City had an almost perfect season so far, the only competition that didn't go as planned was the UEFA Champions League, where they got dropped by Tottenham in the quarter finals. On the domestic front the Citizens first collected the League Cup after defeating Chelsea on penalties in the final, and then retained their Premier League title with a massive tally of 98 points. In fact, the only match that the Citizens have lost since January was the first leg against Tottenham in the Champions League, they have won all their other 21 games in all competitions. Kevin De Bruyne has returned to training following his injury and he should make the starting eleven, but Benjamin Mendy might miss out due to fitness concerns.
Watford had a good season as well, even though finishing 11th in the Premier League was not exactly what they were expecting a month ago. Their FA Cup run had an intense episode in the semi-finals, where then Hornets battled past Wolverhampton with a 3-2 extra-time victory, but after that result they had a pretty poor run in the league. They lost four of their last six matches, including all the last three, and that streak relegated them from the battle for seventh place to eleventh. Jose Holebas was sent off in last week's 4-1 defeat at home against West Ham in the Premier League and he is suspended for the FA Cup final, while Domingos Quina is injured.
Probable line-ups:
Man City: Ederson - Walker, Kompany, Laporte, Zinchenko - D. Silva, Gundogan, De Bruyne - B. Silva, Aguero, Sterling
Watford: Gomes - Femenia, Kabasele, Cathcart, Masina - Doucoure, Capoue - Pereyra, Hughes - Deulofeu, Deeney
My prediction: Manchester City to win 2-0, the Hornets won't be able to cope with the superior firepower of the Citizens.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
