Former Kansas City Chiefs Linebacker Murders Girlfriend
Jovan Belcher's mother has reportedly informed investigators that her son and his girlfriend were fighting over their baby's paternity just before he shot and killed her. The former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker, 25, killed 22-year-old Kasandra Perkins on December 1st then proceeded to commit suicide at the team's facility. Belcher shot Perkins several times one day prior to the Chief's home game against the Panthers. He headed toward Arrowhead Stadium and expressed his gratitude to coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli for everything they've done and the opportunities. The police arrived on the scene and he ducked behind a vehicle where he shot himself in the head. Police had found him sleeping in his car earlier. He explained that he was waiting outside the apartment complex waiting for his girlfriend who was not home at the time. According to police records, Belcher proceeded to enter the complex later and witnesses recall observing him leave at approximately 6:30 a.m. There is no definitive answer as to whether the paternity issue is what provoked Perkins' murder. The new baby, Zoey, is three months old.
