German Affiliate Program Suspended by Betfair over Changeable Regulatory Climate
This week, online gambling group Betfair announced that it is 'temporarily' suspending its German affiliate program due to "continued regulatory challenges" in the German gambling market. Many believe this decision is owed to the fact that Schleswig-Holstein, where the company sought a sports betting license changed its position in the wake of the change of government and decided join the other German lander in the new German Treaty. This speculation could be true, as Betfair specified that it did not want to endanger its application for one of the limited number of new federal German sports betting licenses, and had therefore temporarily decided to "pause marketing activities for new customer acquisition." However, the company is still taking German action, and paying affiliates for the existing referred customers, without specifying when the suspension will end.
