Reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich take on German Cup winners Borussia Dortmund in the first official match of the season at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund on Saturday. Borussia have won the last direct match, it ended 3-2 in the semi-finals of last season's German Cup. The last six matches between the two sides produced two draws and two wins apiece.
New head coach Peter Bosz had a pretty rough pre-season as Borussia lost their last two friendly matches against Atalanta and Espanyol and only managed to win two of their six warm-up matches. Marcel Schmelzer and Raphael Guerreiro are injured and won't be able to play, but Mario Gotze is finally fit again and he should be in the starting eleven. Marco Reus is also injured, while Andre Schurrle is a fitness doubt.
Bayern Munich didn't have a great pre-season run either, they have lost their last three matches and four of the last five: 4-0 against AC Milan, 2-0 against Inter, 3-0 against Liverpool and 2-0 at the hands of Napoli. New signing James Rodriguez is injured and won't be able to make his debut in this match, while Thiago Alcantara will also miss out through injury. New signings Corentin Tolisso and Renato Sanches will probably make their debuts for Bayern on Saturday.
Probable line-ups:
Borussia: Burki - Piszczek, Sokratis, Bartra, Passlack - Castro, Sahin, Gotze - Dembele, Aubameyang, Pulisic
Bayern: Ulreich - Rafinha, Martinez, Hummels, Alaba - Tolisso, Vidal - Coman, Muller, Ribery - Lewandowski
My prediction: 2-2 after 90 minutes.
