Google Publishes DFS App in US Google Play Store
Google is traditionally anti-online gambling; however it has released two Android daily fantasy sports apps in the Google Play store. This indicates one of two things; either Google has changed its position on the issue or it does not classify DFS as gambling considering it skill based. The hugely popular NFL season began this month and it's being aggressively promoted by DFS market leaders, DraftKings and FanDuel. Forbes commented on the issue recalling Google's initial remarks to app developers: “Gambling: We don't allow content or services that facilitate online gambling, including but not limited to, online casinos, sports betting and lotteries, or games of skill that offer prizes of cash or other value." Forbes also quoted a source that revealed that DraftKings and FanDuel apps are part of a “closed, limited pilot” in the American app store. The Google Play developer policies will remain as they are for now and Google is not assessing either company a transaction fee. Most recently, Yahoo has also entered the DFS market and already ranks third behind DraftKings and FanDuel.
