Last-placed Huddersfield play their first match after the departure of manager David Wagner and it will be a tough one as they face defending Premier League champions Manchester City at Kirklees Stadium on Sunday. The reverse fixture was very easy for the Citizens, they won it 6-1 with goals from David Silva and Gabriel Jesus and a hat-trick from Sergio Aguero. However, last season the Terriers did manage to hold the Citizens to a goalless draw at the Etihad Stadium. Moreover, the record of the last six direct matches in all competitions shows just three wins for Manchester City and three draws.
Huddersfield are looking for a restart after a terrible first half of the season, manager
David Wagner left the club by mutual consent but they are still at the bottom of the table with a gap of eight points to 17th-placed Cardiff. In fact, the last match in charge for David Wagner was the goalless draw at Cardiff last week, a result which ended a terrible run of nine consecutive defeats in all competitions for the Terriers. Mark Hudson has been placed in interim charge of the team, and he will have to do without injured Abdelhamid Sabiri, Aaron Mooy and Danny Williams for Sunday's match.
Manchester City can't afford any slip-ups now, they defeated title rivals Liverpool at the start of 2019 and now they have to keep the pressure on the Reds as the gap between the two is now just four points. After the 2-1 victory over Liverpool, the Citizens had great fun in the cup competitions, winning 7-0 against Rotherham in the FA Cup and 9-0 against Burton in the League Cup. They also had a solid performance in the Premier League last time out, they defeated Wolves 3-0 on Monday. Benjamin Mendy is still out injured, but Kevin De Bruyne should be able to make his return to the starting eleven.
Probable line-ups:
Huddersfield: Lossl - Hadergjonaj, Zanka, Schindler, Kongolo - Puncheon, Hogg, Billing - Pritchard, Kachunga - Mounie
Man City: Ederson - Walker, Stones, Laporte, Delph - De Bruyne, Fernandinho, D. Silva - Mahrez, Jesus, Sterling
My prediction: Manchester City to win 4-0, Huddersfield will do their best to impress but they won't be able to cope with the Citizens.
