A two year old illegal sports betting case resurfaced in Ottawa, Canada this week when 51-year-old Gary Saikely was given 18 months in jail by Judge Hugh Fraser for his role.
Saikely was among 21 people arrested in an enforcement drive that took down the ring after a year in operation and $1.2 million in profits.
Previous convictions dot Saikely's record such as illegal bookmaking and an illegal gun offence for which he spent 7 years in jail in 1986.
The head of the ring, Benny Manasseri, will be brought to trial shortly.
