Manchester United lost 2-1 at Old Trafford against Premier League rivals Manchester City on Sunday and manager Jose Mourinho admits his title hopes are "probably" over after this result. However, the Portuguese manager blames referee Michael Oliver for the defeat because he didn't award his side a penalty kick in the second half. Manchester City have become the first ever Premier League side to record fourteen consecutive wins and they now have an 11-point advantage over Manchester United at the top of the table.
David Silva opened the scoring for Manchester City but Michael Rashford made it all square before half time. Manchester City took the lead again through Nicolas Otamendi in the second half and in the 79th minute Ander Herrera was booked for diving inside the penalty area in an incident that Jose Mourinho believes should have resulted in a penalty kick for his side. "The result was made with a big penalty not given. That would have been 2-2," Mourinho said. "Michael Oliver was unlucky because it was a clear penalty."
"Last season it was the same - we won here and it was the referee. Today as well," Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola replied. "Yesterday he spoke about the referee. We are an honest team. We had 65% ball possession, which means we wanted to play. We came here and did that." When asked about the title race, the Spanish manager said: "We are still in December. If we have 11 points when we play the second derby in April then maybe I will tell you that we have the title."
Manchester City are now 1/8 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title this season, while Manchester United are 10/1 to win it.
