Kayla Harrison made Olympic history today after winning the first ever judo gold medal for the USA. She gave her all during the 78-kilogram and took the title in the London Olympic Games.
Harrison entered the final very strong and overpowered Gemma Gibbons of the UK team by maintaining a tougher grip and throwing her twice.
Harrison's teammate, Marti Malloy won the bronze in the women's 57-kilogram division which is the second judo medal for the USA this week.
As number 4 in the world and a prior world champion, Harrison was at the top of her game against her opponents with a victorious ippon move in under a minute's time. Harris was completed focused and going for the gold.
''This is my purpose,'' she said.
Audrey Tcheumeo of France and Mayra Aguiar of Brazil took the bronze medals.
