Kayla Harrison Wins the First Gold Medal for the USA in Judo
Kayla Harrison made Olympic history today after winning the first ever judo gold medal for the USA. She gave her all during the 78-kilogram and took the title in the London Olympic Games. Harrison entered the final very strong and overpowered Gemma Gibbons of the UK team by maintaining a tougher grip and throwing her twice. Harrison's teammate, Marti Malloy won the bronze in the women's 57-kilogram division which is the second judo medal for the USA this week. As number 4 in the world and a prior world champion, Harrison was at the top of her game against her opponents with a victorious ippon move in under a minute's time. Harris was completed focused and going for the gold. ''This is my purpose,'' she said. Audrey Tcheumeo of France and Mayra Aguiar of Brazil took the bronze medals.
