Bitter rivals Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid clash on Saturday in the Spanish capital derby, the match will take place at the new Wanda Metropolitano stadium. Last season Real Madrid won 3-0 at Atletico before being held to a 1-1 draw at Santiago Bernabeu, but the two teams also met in the Champions League. Real Madrid also prevailed in the European competition, they beat Atletico 3-0 at home and held on to that advantage even though they lost 2-1 in the second leg.
Atletico Madrid are not having a great season so far, they are still unbeaten in LaLiga but they have won just six of their eleven matches so far and find themselves tied on 23 points with Real Madrid in third place. Leaders Barcelona are already eight points ahead, so a draw in the derby wouldn't help either of the Madrid sides. Head coach Diego Simeone doesn't have any injury concerns ahead of this match, Koke regained his fitness during the international break and should have a spot in the starting eleven.
Real Madrid have already suffered two shock defeats in LaLiga since the start of the season, 1-0 at home against Betis and 2-1 at Girona, and they also lost 3-1 at Tottenham in the Champions League. They did recover with a 3-0 victory over Las Palmas just before the international break, but their lack of consistency might prove costly against a strong opponent like Atletico. Gareth Bale is injured and won't be able to play, while Dani Carvajal, Mateo Kovacic and Keylor Navas might be fit for Saturday's match.
Probable line-ups:
Atletico: Oblak - Juanfran, Savic, Godin, Luis - Koke, Gabi, Partey, Niguez - Griezmann, Correa
Real: Casilla - Carvajal, Ramos, Varane, Marcelo - Modric, Casemiro, Kroos - Isco - Benzema, Ronaldo
My prediction: Atletico Madrid to win 2-1.
