The 128th edition of the Seville Derby will take place on Saturday, when Real Betis take on Sevilla at Benito Villamarin Stadium. The reverse fixture was quite spectacular and it was eventually won by Betis 5-3 after Sevilla had fought back from 1-0 and 2-1 down in the first half. That was the first victory for Betis over their rivals after five consecutive defeats against Sevilla in all competitions. Overall, Betis have won the Seville Derby 38 times, while Sevilla have triumphed on 59 occasions.
Real Betis have performed above expectations this season and they have already achieved qualification for next season's UEFA Europa League. Their eight-match unbeaten streak came to an end earlier this week as they lost 2-0 at Bilbao, but their goal had already been achieved before that match. A draw in this match would mean that Betis would make sure they finish above Sevilla in the league table, while a win would at least preserve their advantage over sixth-placed Villarreal. Zouhair Feddal, Dani Gimenez, Alex Alegria and Junior Firpo are injured and won't be able to feature in the derby.
Sevilla have faded after an excellent start to the season, they seemed capable of fighting for a top-four place but now they are in danger of missing out on Europa League qualification. They are currently in seventh place and eighth-placed Getafe are just two points behind, so if Sevilla lose the derby then they will drop out of the top seven. However, they have managed to end a nine-game victory drought with two consecutive wins, 1-0 over Real Sociedad last week and 3-2 over Real Madrid this week. Jesus Navas is the only injury concern for Sevilla ahead of the derby.
Probable line-ups:
Betis: Lopez - Mandi, Amat, Bartra - Barragan, Joaquin, Garcia, Ruiz, Durmisi - Boudebouz - Sanabria
Sevilla: Soria - Layun, Lenglet, Mercado, Escudero - Mesa, N'Zonzi - Sarabia, Banega, Nolito - Ramirez
My prediction: 1-1 draw.
