French giants Paris Saint-Germain pulled through the first big signing of the January transfer window as they grabbed German starlet Julian Draxler from Wolfsburg. The 23-year-old winger has been on the radar of both Liverpool and Arsenal in recent years, but the two Premier League clubs have never made an official bid for him. The German international signed a four-and-a-half year contract with the French reigning champions and is looking forward to competing for silverware in France.
"It is with great joy and great anticipation that I join Paris Saint-Germain," Julian Draxler said after the transfer was confirmed. "For the first time in my career, I'm going to discover a new country, a new league, and I'm very proud to take this new step at a club which has become a benchmark in Europe and has signed a lot of great players in recent years. I will do everything to help PSG win new trophies and continue to grow internationally." PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi added: "The signature of this coveted German international reaffirms the strong power of attraction of the club to the players of great talent."
Julian Draxler had started his career at Schalke 04 and made his professional debut in the Bundesliga as a teenager in 2011. He made 119 league appearances for the club before moving to Wolfsburg in 2015 for an undisclosed fee and on a five-year contract. He has already earned 27 caps for the senior German national team and scored three international goals. PSG are currently third in the Ligue 1 table, five points behind surprise leaders Nice, but they are still the favorites to win the title according to the bookmakers as Bet365 have them at 4/7 to win the crown.
