Premier League leaders Liverpool are looking to collect another three points and take another step towards the title when they face Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday. The Reds won the reverse fixture in August 2-0, with goals from James Milner and Sadio Mane. That was the third consecutive win for Liverpool over the Eagles, and the fifth out of the last six direct matches. However, Crystal Palace have won more often than expected at Anfield lately. The Eagles have won three of their last four away matches against Liverpool, the most recent was two seasons ago.
Liverpool still have the Premier League title in their own hands, even though rivals Manchester City are now just four points behind. The direct match between the two sides produced the first defeat of the season for the Reds, then they lost 2-1 to Wolves in the FA Cup, and barely recovered with a narrow 1-0 victory at Brighton in the Premier League last weekend. Mohamed Salah scored the only goal of that match from the penalty spot. Manager Jurgen Klopp still has to deal with an injury crisis in defence as Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out injured. Georginio Wijnaldum has also picked up a knock last time out and is an injury doubt, but Joel Matip should be available again.
Crystal Palace have sailed away from the relegation zone, but they haven't gotten very far yet. The Eagles down in fourteenth place after having lost two of their last three Premier League matches and they are just four points above the danger zone. Last weekend they lost 2-1 at home against Watford, ten days after having grabbed a surprising 2-0 victory at Wolves. Between those two league matches they have also sealed their passage to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory over Grimsby. Goalkeepers Vicente Guaita and Wayne Hennessey are both injury doubts, but Christian Benteke is available again after a lengthy spell on the sideline.
Probable line-ups:
Liverpool: Alisson - Milner, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson - Henderson, Fabinho - Shaqiri, Firmino, Mane - Salah
Crystal Palace: Speroni - Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, Sakho, Van Aanholt - Kouyate, Milivojevic, McArthur - Townsend, Ayew, Zaha
My prediction: Liverpool to win 2-0, the Eagles will be tough to beat but the Reds should be able to put a couple of goals past them.
