May 5th is Kentucky Derby Day
Get out your big hats and dress to impress because this Saturday, May 5th is one of the events horse racing fans have been waiting all year for. It's Kentucky Derby day! Churchill Downs will conduct the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby this weekend and the word is out on the favorites. Bodemeister is the number one choice with 4-1 odds and Union Rags comes in at number two with 9-2 odds. They are two of the nine Grade I winners scheduled to run the track among three Grade II winners and six Grade III winners. Bob Baffert, three-time Kentucky Derby-winning trainer, trained Bodemeister who will be ridden by Mike Smith, winner of the 2005 Kentucky Derby on Giacomo, and break from post position 6. Michael Matz, who brought Barbaro to Kentucky Derby victory in 2006, trained Union Rags who will be ridden by Julien Leparoux and break from post position four. The Kentucky Derby purse will be $2,219,600 with 20 horses set to break form the gate. A total of $1,459,600 is allotted to the winner. For those unable to attend the live racing event, you have plenty of wagering options available. One of which comes from Hollywood Sports.
