Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah scored twice for Liverpool on Tuesday evening in the 5-2 UEFA Champions League semi-finals victory over Roma and those two goals put him right into the hall of fame of the club. Salah kicked things off with the first goal of the match in the first half with a perfect shot that went past goalkeeper Alisson and struck the underside of the crossbar before nesting into the back of the net. Then, just before half-time, Salah struck again to make it 2-0 for Liverpool and set a new club record. The forward also provided a couple of assists in the second half.
Salah has found the back of the net in 32 matches this season, more than any player in the history of the club. The previous record holder was legendary striker Ian Rush, who had scored in 31 matches in the 1983-1984 season. Rush still holds the record for most goals scored in a season for Liverpool, 47, but Mohamed Salah has scored 43 goals in all competitions so far and he still has four Premier League matches to play along with the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals and maybe the Champions League final as well.
Salah also holds the record for most goals scored for Liverpool in a season in an European competition, but team-mate Roberto Firmino is on par with him in this ranking as both have scored ten times in the Champions League this season. "You've got to give him the Ballon d'Or," former Wales midfielder Robbie Savage said following Salah's second goal against AS Roma at Anfield Road on Tuesday. "He is that good. Never mind the PFA Player of the Year, just give him the Ballon d'Or." Mohamed Salah joined Liverpool from AS Roma last summer for 42 million euros.
Liverpool face Stoke City on Saturday in the Premier League and Mohamed Salah is 4/9 at Betfair to score at least one goal in that match.
