New Jersey Isn’t Giving Up on Sports Betting
New Jersey is not giving up on attempt to legalize sports betting within the state as its horse racing industry has requested a review of its case in federal appeals court. The state's work to get around the federal Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), which prohibits sports betting in all but four states, has caught the attention of other states that have their sights set on introducing sports betting. If the review request is accepted, it would again take a look at the constitutionality of PASPA and legalizing sports betting in NJ is a violation. The Association's legal team notes the lack of unanimity in the rulings from the panel of five judges making it necessary for the full 12-judge appeals court to rule on the case.
