Russia is pulling out all the stops to prevent illegal online gambling with its most recent introduction of a payment portal for online sports betting allowing transactions with authorized operators only.
Attempts to conduct transaction with illegal operators will be blocked via ISP.
A new regulatory body, Association of Russian Bookmakers, was put together in December in preparation for legalized online sports betting to launch in June of this year.
Leader of the association, Oleg Zhuravsky, says that the association will continue to file legal action against illegal operators and currently has the process in place with lawsuits scheduled for this year.
The association will work alongside the payment portal, the president of the National Association of Bookmakers in Russia, Yuri Fedorov, said.
Russian financial institutions and internet service providers will support the payment portal according to Fedorov.

Russia is a huge county and I suppose that great amounts of money are involved in the illegal online gambling so that is the way for the Russians government to stop that. We have similar problems here in Bulgaria and in every case there are two sides which sometimes have to make compromises.
