Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla will not remain at Arsenal, his contract ran out at the end of the season and the club decided to let him go. The midfielder had severe injury problems over the past couple of seasons, he has not played at all during the 2017-2018 campaign and only managed to make 11 appearances in all competitions during the previous season. Cazorla was signed by the Gunners in 2012 from Spanish side Malaga and lifted the FA Cup with the club in 2014 and 2015.
Unfortunately his career was halted by complications to an Achilles injury, which nearly led to his leg being amputated. His last appearance for Arsenal was all the way back in October 2016. He is 33 years old now and after an absence of almost two years from the pitch Arsenal decided to let him go. Cazorla started his professional career at Villarreal and it seems that the Spanish club are now keen on signing him on a free transfer. Santi Cazorla was elected Spanish Player of the Year in 2006-2007, while he was playing for Villarreal.
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said: “Santi is always one of my favourite players to watch. His natural ability with both feet, his speed of thought and movement were central to our best performances in recent years. He plays with a joy and freedom which is very rare. We wish him well for the future and thank him for his important contribution to our club.” Cazorla posted a message for the Arsenal fans on Twitter: "I am sad to be leaving after so many great times. I have loved my time with the club and will always remember the special moments we had together. You have always given me special support and I will miss you. Thank you everyone."
Arsenal are 20/1 at William Hill to win the Premier League title next season.
