Premier League: Arsene Wenger ready to spend for transfers

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says the club are prepared to make some moves on the transfer market during the final days of the transfer window, which closes on 31 August. The fans have been criticising Wenger for the lack of transfers over the past few years. The Arsenal boss would probably have ended the summer without any extra signings, but the squad is going through an injury crisis and that will most likely force him to bring in at least one or two new faces. Arsenal have signed two players this summer: Rob Holding from Bolton and Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach. "I can reassure people we're ready to spend the money we have," Wenger said. "It's important to spend money but more important to spend it the right way. There are two markets, one for English clubs, one for the rest of Europe." Aaron Ramsey and Alex Iwobi got injured last weekend during the 4-3 defeat at the hands of Liverpool, while Per Mertesacker, Gabriel Paulista, Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck will be out for several weeks or even months. Wenger said Ramsey could return to action in September, which means he will miss two Premier League matches and also Wales' first World Cup qualifying match against Moldova. The French manager urged fans to trust him, adding that he had made over 400 transfers since joining Arsenal in 1996. "It is dangerous. English clubs suffocate themselves by buying players at a high price with high wages, if it goes wrong you are left with players with high wages," Wenger said.
