Defending Premier League champions Manchester City have no other choice than to win Sunday's match at Selhurst Park in London against Crystal Palace, otherwise they might drop dangerously behind Liverpool in the title race. The reverse fixture produced a stunning result, Crystal Palace won 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium in December, handing the Citizens their second Premier League defeat of the season. That was the first victory for the Eagles against Manchester City after eight matches in which the Citizens recorded seven wins and a draw. Last season the Eagles managed to hold Man City to a goalless draw in London after two consecutive 5-0 defeats.
Crystal Palace are looking forward to a quiet final few weeks of the season, relegation shouldn't be a concern for the Eagles as 18th-placed Cardiff are 11 points behind and there are another five teams in between. Last week Crystal Palace grabbed a 1-0 victory at Newcastle, their third victory in the last four away matches. The Eagles have nothing to lose at this point, and their players are trying to do their best to showcase their talents ahead of the summer transfer window. James Tomkins and Mamadou Sakho are the only injury concerns for the home side.
Manchester City can get back to the top of the table at least for a few hours if they win this match, but they can hope to remain there because rivals Liverpool have a tough match against Chelsea later on Sunday. The Citizens won their eighth consecutive league match last week, 2-0 against Cardiff, and at the weekend they booked their spot in the FA Cup final with a 1-0 win over Brighton. This week they suffered an unlikely 1-0 defeat at Tottenham in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, but the Citizens are confident that they can overturn that deficit at the Etihad Stadium. Kevin de Bruyne was on the bench in midweek and should return to the starting eleven on Sunday, while Bernardo Silva is an injury doubt.
Probable line-ups:
Crystal Palace: Guaita - Wan-Bissaka, Kelly, Dann, Van Aanholt - Townsend, McArthur, Milivojevic, Schlupp - Batshuayi, Zaha
Man City: Ederson - Walker, Stones, Laporte, Mendy - Gundogan, Fernandinho, De Bruyne - Sterling, Jesus, Sane
My prediction: Manchester City to win 3-1, the Citizens are looking for revenge and Crystal Palace won't have the determination to deny them.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
