Crystal Palace will be looking to record consecutive wins for the first time this season when they host Newcastle United at Selhurst Park in London on Saturday. Last season Newcastle managed to beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at St. James' Park, while the reverse fixture ended 1-1. Three of the last six direct matches in all competitions ended in draws, Newcastle won two and Crystal Palace tasted victory on just one occasion. However, Newcastle have not won a match at Selhurst Park since 2013, when they secured a 3-0 Premier League victory just before Christmas.
Crystal Palace had inconsistent form so far this season, they started with a good 2-0 away victory at Fulham but then lost the following three matches before recovering with a 1-0 victory at Huddersfield last week. They have been unable to score any goals in their two home matches so far, but that record should improve very soon because they have some quality players in attack. Manager Roy Hodgson doesn't have any fresh injury concerns ahead of this match, Scott Dann and Connor Wickham remain sidelined, while Pape Souare and Christian Benteke might make the bench.
Newcastle are one of the biggest disappointments of the season so far, they have lost four of their five Premier League matches and have also crashed out of the League Cup after a 3-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest. Last weekend the Magpies lost 2-1 at home against Arsenal and they really couldn't have hoped for more with just two shots on target and 36% ball possession. Jamaal Lascelles missed that match with a twisted ankle and is a doubt ahead of Saturday's game, while Florian Lejeune remains unavailable. Jonjo Shelvey should return to the starting eleven after being an unused substitute last weekend.
Probable line-ups:
Crystal Palace: Hennessey - Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, Sakho, Van Aanholt - Kouyate, Milivojevic, Meyer - Townsend, Ayew, Zaha
Newcastle: Dubravka - Yedlin, Lascelles, Fernandez, Dummett - Ritchie, Shelvey, Hayden, Kenedy - Perez - Rondon
My prediction: Crystal Palace to win 1-0, the Eagles have not impressed so far but Newcastle have been pretty much terrible.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
Crystal Palace win - 2.14
Draw - 3.40
Newcastle win - 3.75
