Data company Gracenote Sports have released a new forecast of what they will think will happen this season in the Premier League. Before the start of the season they predicted Chelsea would win the title, but last Saturday Manchester City beat them 1-0 at Stamford Bridge and outplayed them for large chunks of the game. Now they have updated their prediction: Manchester City will win the Premier League title, while Crystal Palace, who have not scored any goals in seven matches and lost all of them, will finish at the bottom of the table.
Gracenote employ their Euro Club Index ranking of top-flight clubs and then they run season simulations no less than one million times to predict the final league table. Their initial prediction was that Chelsea would win the title and Manchester City would finish second, while Manchester United were predicted to finish fifth. After seven matches, the two Manchester clubs are the only unbeaten teams in the league, with six wins and a draw apiece and just four goals conceded between them.
"Unsurprisingly, the teams who were projected to finish in the top-six pre-season still are, but the exceptional starts of the two Manchester clubs have improved their expected points and positions at the end of the season," said Gracenote Sports' head of analysis Simon Gleave. Manchester City have been given a 47% chance of winning the Premier League title, Manchester United have a 24% chance and Chelsea have a 13% of successfully defending their league title.
The bookmakers seem to have a similar prediction as Manchester City are 4/6 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title this season.
