Premier League: Fulham sign Aleksandar Mitrovic

Newly-promoted Premier League side Fulham have secured a new striker: Aleksandar Mitrovic from Newcastle. Fulham paid 22 million pounds for the Serbian international, with an additional 5 million pounds to be paid in bonus fees. Mitrovic is not a stranger to the club as he spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham and scored 12 goals in 17 appearances. Aleksandar Mitrovic had joined Newcastle from Belgian side Anderlecht in 2015 for 14.5 million pounds but never seemed to produce enough goals for the Magpies. He scored 9 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions in his first season at Newcastle and then only bagged 6 in 29 matches in his second campaign in England. "I'm happy to the moon and back," Mitrovic said after signing the five-year contract with Fulham. "I'm very glad and happy and proud to finally be here and officially become a Fulham player. I have love for the fans. They're amazing fans and I have a really good connection with them. This is a big club and last year we made history. We want to keep making big things - and with all the fans behind us I think we can go far." Mitrovic played in all three World Cup matches for Serbia at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and even managed to score in his team's 2-1 defeat against Switzerland. Manager Slavisa Jokanovic, also a Serbian national, was the one who insisted to bring Mitrovic to Fulham and it proved to be the right choice as the striker helped the Cottagers to get back to the Premier League. Fulham have been very busy on the transfer market this summer, trying to reinforce their squad in order to avoid relegation from the Premier League next season. They have already signed goalkeeper Fabri from Besiktas, German World Cup-winning winger Andre Schurrle on loan from Borussia Dortmund, plus Ivory Coast midfielder Jean Michael Seri and defender Maxime le Marchand from Nice.
