Premier League side Liverpool have reached an agreement with Serie A club AS Roma for the transfer of Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah. Liverpool had made an offer worth 28 million pounds earlier in June but Roma rejected the bid. Now it seems that the Reds have returned with a better offer, worth between 35 and 39 million pounds. Moreover, manager Jurgen Klopp has met Mohamed Salah for a discussion and the player has already agreed personal terms in principle.
If the deal goes through Mohamed Salah could become the most expensive Liverpool transfer ever, surpassing the 35 million pounds that they paid for striker Andy Carroll in 2011. Salah could also become the most expensive African player, the current record is held by Sadio Mane's move from Southampton to Liverpool which was worth 34 million pounds. The Egyptian international was close to a move to Liverpool in 2014, but back then he chose to join Chelsea in a move worth 11 million pounds from Swiss side FC Basel.
He only started six Premier League matches for Chelsea but had successful loan spells in Italy at Fiorentina and AS Roma before moving to the Italian capital on a permanent basis. He scored 15 goals in 31 league appearances last season as Roma finished second in Serie A. Salah was employed mainly as a right winger, but he can also do a good job as a left winger or as a secondary striker. Salah would give manager Jurgen Klopp further options in attack behind the central striker, along with the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho.
Liverpool are 12/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League title next season.
