Liverpool continue their fight for the Premier League title with the easiest match they can have at this point, the Reds face last-placed Huddersfield at Anfield on Friday evening. However, the reverse fixture was not that easy for Liverpool, they only managed to win it 1-0 thanks to a goal from Mohamed Salah. Last season the Reds defeated the Terriers 3-0 both at home and away, Salah missed a penalty in the first match and converted another in the second. Liverpool have won the last six direct matches in all competitions and have not lost a game against Huddersfield since 1959.
Liverpool have dropped to second place in the Premier League table after Manchester City's 2-0 victory over Manchester United on Wednesday, the Citizens have a one-point advantage over the Reds with three matches left in the season. This means that the title is no longer in Liverpool's hands, all they can do is win their remaining three matches and hope that Man City slip up. The first of those three matches is against Huddersfield and the Reds have to focus and do the job, getting the three points. Manager Jurgen Klopp also has next week's UEFA Champions League semi-final against Barcelona to worry about, so he might rest some players for that clash. Fabinho picked up a knock during last week's 2-0 victory at Cardiff and will not be risked, while Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana are injury doubts as well.
Huddersfield have been relegated for quite some time now, their only concern at the moment is keeping the results respectable and maybe taste victory one last time before heading back to the Championship. The Terriers have lost their last seven Premier League matches and overall they have lost 27 of their 35 games this season. This is one of the worst performances of a Premier League club in recent seasons. Last week they did try to battle for a win at home against Watford but eventually lost 2-1. Abdelhamid Sabiri is injured, while Adama Diakhaby, Philip Billing, Demeaco Duhaney and Laurent Depoitre are injury doubts.
Probable line-ups:
Liverpool: Alisson - Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson - Henderson, Wijnaldum, Milner - Salah, Firmino, Mane
Huddersfield: Lossl - Smith, Schindler, Kongolo, Durm - Hadergjonaj, Mooy, Stankovic, Bacuna, Lowe - Mounie
My prediction: Liverpool to win 5-0, the Reds will most likely thrash the Terriers as they might be quite frustrated after losing their top spot in the league table.
