Premier League: Liverpool vs Leicester preview

Liverpool are looking to secure their second consecutive win when they face Leicester at Anfield Road on Saturday. The Reds won the reverse fixture 3-2 in September but the Foxes came very close to a draw as Jamie Vardy missed a penalty kick late in the game. The two teams have also met in the League Cup earlier this season and Leicester won that match 2-0. Last season Leicester won their home match against Liverpool 3-1 after having lost the game at Anfield Road 4-1. Three of the last four direct matches produced more than four goals per game. Liverpool entertained their fans on Boxing Day with a comfortable 5-0 victory over Swansea but they have had problems in building winning streaks this season. They have recorded more than two consecutive wins on just three occasions this season, it always seemed that the Reds were bound to record a disappointing draw after a good win. They are currently fourth in the league table, just one point above Tottenham, so they need to keep winning if they want to stay in the top four. Adam Bogdan, Nathaniel Clyne, Alberto Moreno and Jordan Henderson are all injured, but Daniel Sturridge is getting closer to his return. Leicester City have been recording better results under new manager Claude Puel, but they are far from returning to the winning side that stunned the Premier League under Claudio Ranieri. On Boxing Day the Foxes suffered a 2-1 defeat at Watford just three days after having held Manchester United to a 2-2 draw. They are currently eighth in the league table, relegation is no longer a concern, but they need to do better if they want to push for a top-six finish. Robert Huth and Danny Simpson are injured, but Daniel Amartey returns after having served his suspension.
