Premier League leaders Liverpool are ready to make another step towards the title, their eyes are on the three points when they host former champions Leicester at Anfield on Wednesday. The Reds won the reverse fixture 2-1, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino scored in the first half and then Rachid Ghezzal reduced the arrears for the Foxes after the break. That was the third consecutive win for Liverpool over Leicester, but in all those three matches the Foxes managed to score. Overall, Liverpool won four of the last six direct matches in all competitions, and Leicester won the other two.
Liverpool had the entire last week to prepare for this match, that was the good side of their surprising 2-1 defeat at Wolves in the FA Cup on January 7. Their latest Premier League match was a spectacular one, they defeated Crystal Palace 4-3 at Anfield after having fought back from 1-0 down. Mohamed Salah scored two goals in that match, and Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane also found the back of the net. Joe Gomez is still injured as his recovery from a leg fracture encountered a setback, he remains sidelined alongside Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. James Milner is suspended after having been sent off against Crystal Palace, but Trent Alexander-Arnold and Georginio Wijnaldum have recovered from their injuries and should be available.
Leicester also had a clear schedule last week because they were knocked out of the FA Cup by League Two side Newport County in the third round. That was the first in a series of three consecutive defeats in all competitions, after that match they lost 2-1 at home against Southampton and 4-3 at Wolves in the Premier League. The Foxes have dropped to ninth place in the league table after those defeats, but they really don't have anything to lose in Wednesday's match. Harry Maguire is the only injury doubt for the away side, while Daniel Amartey is ruled out.
Probable line-ups:
Liverpool: Alisson - Fabinho, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson - Henderson, Wijnaldum - Mane, Firmino, Keita - Salah
Leicester: Schmeichel - Simpson, Morgan, Maguire, Chilwell - Mendy, Ndidi - Pereira, Maddison, Albrighton - Vardy
My prediction: Liverpool to win 3-0, Leicester won't be able to cope with the Reds.
