Liverpool will be looking to extend their unbeaten streak in all competitions to 14 matches when they host Sunderland at Anfield Road on Saturday. Last season the Black Cats produced a slight upset by recording a 2-2 draw at Liverpool. In fact, the Reds have not beaten them at Anfield Road since 2014. However, Liverpool have won three of the last five matches against Sunderland.
Liverpool dropped to second place in the Premier League table last weekend, they are now one point behind leaders Chelsea after a frustrating 0-0 draw at Southampton. That result extended their unbeaten streak to thirteen games in all competitions, but a repeat of that result this weekend would be quite disappointing for the Reds. Adam Lallana is still injured, along with Danny Ings, while Joe Gomez is not ready for his return yet.
Sunderland are on a good streak of their own, they won their last two matches and moved away from the bottom of the table. However, they are still in the relegation zone, with just eight points collected in twelve games. Last weekend they defeated Hull City 3-0 at the Stadium of Light, while before the international break they snatched a 2-1 victory at Bournemouth. Papy Djilobodji is suspended for this match, while Paddy McNair, Lee Cattermole and Fabio Borini are all injured.
Probable line-ups:
Liverpool: Karius - Clyne, Lovren, Matip, Milner - Wijnaldum, Henderson, Can - Mane, Firmino, Coutinho
Sunderland: Pickford - Jones, Kone, O'Shea, Van Aanholt - Kirchhoff, Ndong - Watmore, Januzaj, Anichebe - Defoe
My prediction: Liverpool to win 3-1.
Here are the odds for the match at Bet365:
Liverpool win - 1.17
Draw - 8.50
Sunderland win - 19.00
