Liverpool are looking to recover from last weekend's disappointment when they host West Bromwich Albion at Anfield Road on Wednesday. The Reds won both league matches against the Baggies last season, 2-1 at home and 1-0 in the reverse fixture. Before last season, we had a streak of three consecutive draws between these two teams, but overall Liverpool have won three of the last six direct matches. West Brom have not won at Anfield Road since 2013, when they pulled off a surprising 2-0 victory.
Liverpool were frustrated in the Merseyside Derby last weekend, it ended 1-1 despite the Reds having dominated most of the match. The result ended their three-game winning streak in all competitions, but extended their unbeaten run to ten games. They have not lost any of their home matches in the Premier League this season, but were held to draws on four occasions. Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino were surprisingly rested by manager Jurgen Klopp last weekend, so they should return to the starting eleven on Wednesday.
West Brom have not won a Premier League match since August, they started the season with two consecutive wins but then failed to win any of the following fourteen matches. Last weekend they lost 1-0 at fellow relegation candidates Swansea, ending a streak of three consecutive draws. The Baggies have conceded just 22 goals so far, not too many considering that Liverpool have let in 20, but they only managed to score 12 times. Gareth Barry might be available again after having missed last weekend's match.
Probable line-ups:
Liverpool: Mignolet - Alexander-Arnold, Klavan, Lovren, Robertson - Wijnaldum, Can, Coutinho - Salah, Firmino, Mane
West Brom: Foster - Nyom, Hegazi, Evans, Gibbs - Livermore, Barry, Yacob - Robson-Kanu, Rondon, Rodriguez
My prediction: Liverpool to win 2-0.
